The Green Mind: It Is What It Is!

By Tony L Atayde

I had the opportunity to have a 1 on 1 interview with Coach Gee Abanilla on 2 occasions last year. He is one of the nicest, most polite, soft spoken and truly Lasallian gentleman that I have met.

Last year was a difficult year to start as head coach, yet he took on the challenge and his team overachieved. We were coming from a 2 year nightmare where we did not even make the Final Four and no one expected us to be there last year considering that there was a new coach a new system and a very demoralized team.He proved everybody wrong and brought us to the Final Four.

We even had a good chance of beating Ateneo but fate was on the side of the Blue Eagles side.

They had a good team and a great coach. This year, a lot was expected from the DLSU squad.

After successive wins in the Fil-Oil pre-season tournament, DLSU went on a 3 game losing skid.

Many will connect this to La Salle’s version of THE DECISION but I would like to believe there is a bigger picture to be looked at.As we all know Coach Gee has been replaced by Asst. Coach Juno Sauler to be the head coach of La Salle.

The reason given is that Coach Gee is being brought back to Petron, a team that is going through a major reorganization after a dismal showing in the PBA.
