2011 FilOil Flying V Preseason Roster

The Green Archers will kick start their preparations for the 2011 UAAP basketball season by participating in the Fil-Oil Summer League. The lineup for this tournament lists 20 players, featuring a mix of old faces and new recruits.

ANDRADA, Yutien
ATKINS, Simon
DE LA PAZ, Luigi
ELORDE, Nico
GOTLADERA, Alfonzo
HERRERA, Aiki
MARATA, Joseph
MENDOZA, Jovet
PAREDES, Papot
PATE, Michael
REVILLA, LA
REYES, Martin
SARA, Roldan
TAMPUS, Jarelan
TORRES, Norbert
VAN OPSTAL, Arnold
VIGIL, Louie
VILLANUEVA, Maui
VOSOTROS, Almond
WEBB, Joshua

Returnees are 5th year player Atkins, veterans Andrada, Marata, Mendoza, Villanueva, and Webb, sophomores dela Paz, Elorde, Herrera, Paredes, Reyes, Tampus, and Vosotros. LA Revilla returns to the team after a 2-year absence due to medical reasons.

Newcomers are Alfonso Gotladera and Roldan Sara from San Beda, Michael Pate from La Salle Greenhills, Arnold Van Opstal from La Salle Zobel, Louie Vigil of JRU and Filipino-Canadian Norbert Torres. They bring a combination of height, heft, speed, shotmaking, and playmaking to the equation.

Players not in this lineup who were on last year’s team are Ferdinand, Joel Tolentino, and Gab Banal. Tolentino and Banal transferred schools.

Our first game is on Saturday, April 9 against the UST Tigers, a team aching for payback after a couple of seasons of futility against the Green Archers.  Our team plays 2 games after Holy Week, then takes almost a month away for their annual training trip to the US, then play 4 games in 7 days against NU (May 25), San Beda (May 28), Lyceum (June 1), and finally against arch-rival Ateno on June 4.

The games against our fellow UAAP teams will be interesting, since they should serve as a preview of what could happen come July.

With this lineup, hopes are high that the Archers can improve on their 4th place finish in Season 73. If you want to have a better idea of what this team is capable of, come to the Arena in San Juan and see them in action.
