DLSU gets 2nd place in UAAP season 73

De La Salle University gave their best attempt to wrest the overall championship title from University of Santo Tomas, but it wasn’t enough as the Tigers captured the general championship plum of the just concluded UAAP Season 73.

The Tigers emerged as champions in six events, had seven runner-up finishes, and five third place trophies as they garnered their 14th straight overall championship since 1988, the longest winning streak in the league, and their 38th overall championship crown, 12 titles ahead of second-running Far Eastern University.

UST got the equivalent of 15 points per event in topping the men’s volleyball, women’s judo, men’s lawn tennis, women’s taekwondo and baseball, and finished second in women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s football, men’s and women’s chess, women’s athletics, men’s swimming, men’s beach volleyball, and men’s taekwondo, with an equivalent 12 points each.

De La Salle, which topped women’s volleyball, men’s taekwondo, women’s chess and women’s tennis settled for second place with an aggregate 263 points, while University of the Philippines finished third upon garnering a total of 221 points, only two points ahead of fourth-placer Far Eastern University (219).

Ateneo was in fifth spot with 206 points, followed by University of the East with 148 points, Adamson was in seventh place with 114 points, while National University was in 8th spot with 40 points.

The UST Tiger Cubs made it a double celebration for UST, which incidentally is celebrating it’s 400th year, as they garnered the juniors overall title by amassing a total of 128 points.

It was the Tiger Cubs’ 13th overall championship title, followed by University of the East with only one title.

The Junior Warriors finished second behind UST with 113 points, followed by Ateneo with 109, La Salle Zobel (97), UPIS (48), FEU-Fern (46), NU (40) and Adamson (28). – KY, GMA News
