DLSU vs ADU 8/12 Pregame: Free Throw Shooting

2PM – Smart Araneta Coliseum

For this pregame post, we will do away with the usual format and instead focus on Free Throws.

Here’s an alarming Stat: The Green Archers’ free throw percentage is falling. Here are the figures for the past 4 seasons.

2008 – 64.4%
2009 – 59.1%
2010 – 57.8%
2011 – 58.3%

On average, they get close to 320 attempts per season. Last season’s percentage was slightly better because the team only had 266 attempts.

This season, the Green Archers are currently ranked 6th in free throws at 60.2%. Ateneo is first at 81.4%, there’s no surprise to this considering that their top 3 players are shooting at a combined average of 84% and they get around 30 attempts per game.

JV Casio was the last Archer to shoot at least 80% from the foul line in one season. Here are the current team leaders in free throws (minimum of 10 attempts)

Since 2010, La Salle has lost several games that were decided by less than 10 points. In those games, the team was shooting 60% from the foul line.

If only they made at least 80% of their free throws, this could have been the possible scenario assuming all other factors remain the same:

The Archers could have been 4-1 right now.

The season is still young and we believe that there’s still time to correct this. This problem is something that has not anything to do with the team’s system, chemistry or experience. This is something that the players need to overcome on their own.

Let’s aim for a strong first round finish. Go Archers!
