At the end of the day, everybody walked away happy, including the two teams that played.
In a rare showdown between the UAAP and NCAA men’s basketball champions, the De La Salle Green Archers and the San Beda Red Lions settled for a draw at 74-all. Since this is an exhibition game, there is no overtime period to determine the winner.
Almond Vosotros scored 21 points while Norbert Torres added 9 in this charity match for the victims of Typhoon Yolanda.
La Salle dictated the tempo in the first half, cruising to 10-point halftime lead. The Red Lions however stormed back in the third period to put themselves within striking distance. Anchored by Baser Amer and Ola Adeogun, San Beda took the upper-hand 70-69 with 1:49 left in the game.
Tied at 72 with 36 ticks remaining, Norbert Torres made a key defensive stop with a block and made the go-ahead basket on the other end with an offensive putback.
Adeogun then scored off a put-back in the ensuing play with a foul. He however missed the bonus free throw which gave the Green Archers the opportunity to go for the win. They had two chances to convert but was unable to do so as time expired in regulation.
Around Php 1.8 million was raised from this game as both teams pledged Php5,000 for every point scored aside from Php5,000 for each three-point shot made.
Notes: LA Revilla, recently drafted in the PBA and is in the inactive roster of Global Port suited-up for the last time for La Salle, scoring 6 points. Arnold Van Opstal did not play due to a bruised hip. Both teams will again square-off in the PCCL semis this coming Thursday.
