Frenetic defense powers Lady Archers to third straight win

With a fantastic display of their trademark suffocating defense, the Lady Archers dumped the UP Lady Maroons, 66-31, to win their third consecutive game earlier at the Blue Eagle Gym.

Alyanna Ong led the defending champions with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists while Trisha Piatos added 9 points, 2 assists and 2 steals.

“We put pressure on UP and I’m quite satisfied with how we did it,” shared head coach Tyrone Bautista after the game.

Right from the start of the game, the Lady Archers caught fire and never looked back. The team quickly jumped to a 9-2 lead after a Chay Vergara trifecta in the opening period forcing UP to call an early timeout.

La Salle then continued to run and gun which led to 17-7 first quarter lead.

Entering into the second quarter, it was the same story for the Lady Archers as the team implemented its space and pace offense along with its pesky fullcourt trap to perfection.

The second canto started with La Salle dicing UP with a variety of pick and roll plays leading to a lot of open jumpers. The Lady Archers eventually jumped to 27-12 lead with their crafty and selfless playmaking.

“I liked the way we defended throughout the game. Our energy level at the defensive end was what we needed to dictate the tempo of the game,” added coach Bautista.

Cruising comfortably for the most part of the second half, the Lady Archers delivered the final blow to the Lady Maroons in the final period as the team uncorked a 17-2 run en route to the team’s third straight win.

Up next for the Lady Archers will be the UE Lady Red Warriors this Sunday at the Blue Eagle Gym.
