Green Volleybelles get past gutsy FEU for 5th win

(DLSUSports.com) Tough situations will always show the true character of the team.

The Lady Spikers won their fifth game in a row after decimating the FEU Lady Tamaraws in four hard-fought sets, 25-16, 21-25, 25-23, 25-22, last Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

Ara Galang topscored for the Lady Spikers as she dropped 22 points, 2 blocks and 7 digs while Mika Reyes had her best game so far with 17 points and 7 blocks. In addition, Cyd Demecillo had 12 points.

For FEU, Bernadeth Pons had 22 points while Rose Basas had 12 points and 7 digs. In addition, Geneveve Casugod scored 7 points.

“Sarili na rin namin ang kalaban mismo at mababaw din ang focus namin. Nagawang makahabol ng kalaban after ng first set. Dapat nasa tamang focus kami palagi,” said head coach Ramil de Jesus after the game.

La Salle started the game on a roll as they quickly squashed the Lady Tams to a pulp in the first set but things started going south come the second set.

The Lady Spikers look to pounce on the clueless Tamaraws after establishing an 8-2 lead but FEU answered back with an unexpected comeback and had a 19-14 lead of their own.

DLSU tried to deny FEU the win but the odds weren’t in their favor as the game was tied with a 1-1 card.

Come the third set, both teams played with a sense of urgency as they blasted attack after and attack  and at the same time endured a lot of long rallies. La Salle would gain some leverage as Demecillo’s attack enabled a 16-12 lead.

The set would go down the wire but Demecillo once again scored crucial points to preserve the set.

Capitalizing on the opposition’s fatigue, the Lady Spikers finally ran away in the fourth and final set and at the same time slammed the door shut for any chance of an FEU win.

This win gives La Salle the solo lead in the standings with a 5-0 record.
