Junior and Lady Archers end first round in contrasting fashion

Renzo Subido

De La Salle Zobel lost two consecutive games this week to close out the first round. They lost to UST 71-78 last Tuesday and yesterday against Ateneo 64-86.

Against the Blue Eaglets, Renzo Subido, the scoring leader in the juniors division, erupted for 34 points, including 5 of 7 shooting from the three-point area. Down by almost 20 points in the second quarter, the Junior Archers stormed back, cutting the deficit to just 4 late in the third period. But Ateneo countered with its own scoring run and pulled away for good.

The Junior Archers enter the second round in fifth place with a 3-3 slate.

In women’s basketball, the Lady Archers finished their first round campaign with two lopsided wins this week. They edged out UP 58-45 last Tuesday and UST 77-53 yesterday.

Aracelie Abaca led the team in both wins with 12 and 19 points respectively.

La Salle is now at 5-2, assured of at least third place entering the next round.
