It was reported by Spin.ph that DLSZ standout Renzo Subido will be headed to UST and play for the Growling Tigers in the senior’s division next season. Subido played 4 years for the Junior Archers and was part of the Mythical 5 in season 75.
Renzo Subido is taking the same route as a former De La Salle-Zobel star turned Tiger as the Junior Archers guard heads to University of Santo Tomas to play college ball.
Henry Subido confirmed his son Renzo will most likely suit up for the Tigers in the UAAP in college after his high school stint with the Junior Archers.
“Renzo has been practicing with the UST team since December. So far, Renzo has been getting positive responses from the UST coaches,” said the elder Subido.
The Zobel star point guard led Season 76 of the UAAP juniors tournament in scoring with average of 20.1 points a game while finishing second in three-point shooting with a total 30 conversions.
The development mirrored similar move six years ago by another Zobel point guard in Jeric Fortuna, who also decided to move to España instead of going to De La Salle’s Taft campus. In 2008, Fortuna played his rookie season with UST after a stint as a star player of the Junior Archers.
With UST, he is expected to get heavy minutes right away at the point guard spot unlike in DLSU where he needs to compete with Thomas Torres, Kib Montalbo and incoming rookie Terrence Mustre for playing time. Career-wise, it was a good move.
His case is similar not only to Jeric Fortuna but also to LSGH’s Paul Artadi who back in 1999 instead went to UE because of the Archers’ already-loaded backcourt.

With all the media hoopla about recruitment by the other schools, little has been written about incoming Green Archer Prince Rivero.
The NCAA Junior’s MVP from LSGH will be joining an intact DLSU team who only lost guard L.A Revilla. In addition, Yutien Andrada will return after missing last season due to injury and several players from team b will be elevated.
In an article by GMA News, Prince is not fazed by the thought of having to play behind veteran players in his position. He is determined to work his way up and prove to be worthy to the team’s trust.
Prince Rivero is taking his talents to Taft Avenue, but the reigning NCAA juniors MVP is aware that things will only get more difficult from now on.
“Sabi niya saken [DLSU coach Juno Sauler], I need to work my way up; I need to work for my slot kasi isa lang yung grumaduate sa kanila so I really need to work hard and improve on everything,” “Skills, speed, I need to discipline myself to be a better player and also makipag-compete ako sa kanila inside the court.”
The young gun added that the decision to stay Green was made just before Christmas: “Nung umalis ako ng NU [NU high school], La Salle yung kumuha sakin para makapasok ako sa school and siyempre nandun din yung brothers ko and yung community ng La Salle. Mas gusto ko yung community ng La Salle at parang family narin ako sa kanila. First choice ko talaga DLSU.”
The 6’3” Rivero is expected to share the small forward and power forward spots with Jeron Teng, Matt Salem, Gabby Reyes and Jason Perkins, while Norbert Torres, Arnold Van Opstal and the come-backing Yutien Andrada man the middle for the green and white.
Rivero also expects comparisons between himself and UAAP juniors MVP Thirdy Ravena, who will join his older brother Keifer and San Beda standout Arvin Tolentino with the Ateneo Blue Eagles this June. “I just need to work hard. Magkaiba kami ng laro,” Rivero said. “Magkaiba yung opinion ng mga people. I just need to work hard and play my best.”
