La Salle breezes past UP to claim solo leadership

In less than an hour and a half.

That is all the time the rejuvenated Lady Spikers needed to dismantle UP in straight sets 25-15, 25-19, 25-19 to claim solo leadership in the standings at 7-2.

Riding on the momentum from their payback victory over NU last Saturday, the defending champions came out with much energy to start the match and managed to sustain it in the succeeding sets. Aside from the aggressiveness, the team displayed that “closer’s mentality” by not allowing UP a chance to mount a rally. That killer instinct was absent in the first round.

Desiree Cheng and Kim Dy both topscored for the Lady Spikers with 14 points. Overall, the team had 34 attack points and did extremely well on their serves which resulted to 15 aces.

“Magandang sign sa team kasi papatapos yung first round, or start ng second round, maganda yung kinikilos ng team so magandang sign para sa team. Isa sa mga target namin ay mag 1 or 2. Medyo maganda ang position namin ngayon so hopefully magtuloy-tuloy,” coach Ramil De Jesus said.
“Naging organized ang blocking namin and ang floor defense medyo nag-work. At the same time maganda ang naging services ng team,”

La Salle will have a big game coming up this Sunday as they take on FEU (6-3). It is a must win for the Lady Spikers in order to maintain separation between them and the other teams chasing for the top two spots.
