De La Salle survived a late game rally to edge out UST 72-67 today in the PCCL Sweet 16.
Reminiscent of their UAAP first round duel last August, the Green Archers had a double digit lead to start the final period but the Growling Tigers clawed their way back to pull within 2 with 20 seconds remaining. Joseph Marata, who suited up for the first time in this tournament, was then sent to the foul line but managed to convert just one attempt for a 70-67 lead with 10 seconds left.
UST had a chance to tie the game with a 3-pointer but Louie Vigil’s attempt from beyond the arc was rejected by Norbert Torres. Almond Vosotros converted the ensuing foul shots to seal the win for La Salle.
Joshua Webb again led the Green Archers with 16 points followed by Vosotros with 13.
UST were without Jeric Fortuna and Jeric Teng in this game due to their SEA games commitment. Kevin Ferrer was the only Tiger to score in double digits with 23 points. La Salle did a superb job in limiting Karim Abdul and Chris Camus to just 5 points each.
The Green Archers will go up against the Letran Knights in another knock-out affair tomorrow at 4PM.
