University of Santo Tomas and host De La Salle U are locked in a tight battle for the UAAP Season 73 general championship after the first 12 events of this year’s hostilities.

The Tigers, gunning for a 13th straight overall title, have assembled 127 points against the 121 of Green Archers, who are still looking for their very first general crown in the league.

Perennial champs UST anchored its campaign on victories in men’s badminton, women’s taekwondo and men’s table tennis and runner-up finishes in men’s beach volleyball, men’s swimming and men’s taekwondo.

Although winning only one event so far (men’s taekwondo), DLSU gained substantial equivalent points with bridesmaid feats in women’s badminton, women’s beach volleyball, and men’s and women’s table tennis.

At third spot behind UST and DLSU was Far Eastern U with 111, gaining from its conquest of women’s badminton, men’s beach volleyball and women’s table tennis.

University of the Philippines, which scored a double championship in men’s and women’s swimming, occupied fourth with 91 points.

Three-peat men’s basketball winner Ateneo stood at fifth with 77 followed by University of the East with 57, women’s basketball and women’s beach volleyball titlist Adamson with 55 and National U with 33.
