Lady Archers deny late LPU rally in FilOil debut

Comeback attempt successfully denied.

The Lady Archers successfully staved off the Lyceum Lady Pirates late-game run with a gritty 59-53 victory in their FilOil Preseason earlier today at the San Juan Arena.

Forward Ara Abaca led La Salle with a dominating double-double performance of 14 points and 19 rebounds while Camille Ramos and Cass Santos added 9 and 7 points respectively.

“Well, right now it is a good experience for us. Being able to set the composure and topple up a lot of poise during the end-game (situations) and that situation earlier in the fourth quarter, the end game, was a good experience for us. I love us to be in that situation for now,” shared Lady Archers Head Coach Tyrone Bautista after the game.

The Lady Archers saw their 40-28 lead disappear in the fourth quarter after Lyceum uncorked an 18-7 scoring run, the La Salle lead  was trimmed down to 48-47 courtesy of  Chack Cabinbin’s layup at the 3:40 mark.

Timely baskets then came in for La Salle as Abaca, Santos and Nickie Garcia successfully pounded the paint which swelled the Lady Archers lead to 55-51. Sensing the win, Abaca would deliver the final blow after sinking two freebies in the waning seconds of regulation.

With their debut win in the books, the Lady Archers aim to maintain their composure and establish better chemistry in the games to come.

“They were able to adjust and to accept the fact that the two players were gone and they have to carry the load especially the veterans now.

They have to carry the load na iniwan nina (Kady) Wilson at (Hannah) Viterbo,” he ended.
