The De La Salle University Lady Archers got back at their first round tormentors, the National University Lady Bulldogs to the tune of 77-69 at the resumption of the UAAP Season 76 women’s basketball competitions at the Smart Araneta Coliseum yesterday.

The Lady Archers went up for a blazing start in the ball game, leading 10-2 early in the first quarter. After calling their ceasefire, the Lady Bulldogs got back on track, even taking the lead at 19-17 in the early stages of the second quarter.

It was a see-saw action from midway until the end of the second quarter as both teams’ defenses held tough making it hard to convert baskets but the Lady Archers still hung tough, taking a 29-27 lead going into the halftime break.

Come third period, the Lady Bulldogs succumbed to one turnover after another, crediting it to the Lady Archers’ various full court pressure defense. The Lady Archers took advantage of NU’s plethora of mistakes, giving them a comfortable 57-45 lead going into the final period.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bulldogs also started applying full court pressure defense of their own, most of the time a 1-2-1-1 full court zone trap but the Lady Archers were not rattled and instead scored baskets by breaking NU’s full court pressure defense.

NU’s last hurrah was getting close to seven points at 61-54 midway through the final period but after the time out called by Coach Tyrone Bautista, the Lady Archers regained their composure and even ballooned their lead to 73-61 with 3:18 left in the final frame.

The Lady Archers cruised from there on giving them their sixth victory in the tournament in nine games. DLSU is currently 1-1 in the second round. Overall, the Lady Archers are trailing the FEU Lady Tamaraws and the NU Lady Bulldogs in the standings. This is just NU’s second loss in the tournament.
