Lady Spikers move Cyd Demecillo to Libero for the rest of the season

The De La Salle Lady Spikers make a sudden change in their rotation as the coaching staff confirmed this week that veteran Cyd Demecillo will be moving to the Libero position until the end of the tournament. She replaces rookie CJ Saga who will now play as a Setter.

Speculation of the change emerged in their last game against Adamson wherein Demecillo was seen wearing the alternate color jersey. However, she did not play as she is still recovering from a recent injury. Saga meanwhile played briefly as a non-Libero in that game.

The coaching staff believes that the change will further strengthen their floor defense as they look to make a strong push towards reclaiming the UAAP championship.

“Di napapansin ng marami yung exceptional skills ni Cyd sa floor defense at reception. Tingin namin mas gaganda ang takbo ng depensa namin pag sya ang alternate na Libero kay Dawn (Madandili)”, said one of the team’s assistants. “Si CJ naman, natural position nya talaga ang pagiging setter kaya goal namin ay ma maximize ang strengths ng players”.

The Lady Spikers will return to action tomorrow against the win-less UE Lady Warriors. Tied with ADMU on top of the standings at 9-2, La Salle needs to win just one of their last three games in the elimination round to secure the twice-to-beat advantage in the Final 4.
