Michelle Cobb’s end-game heroics help Lady Spikers go 2-0

If there were still any doubts if Michelle Cobb can effectively take over the starting settter role, there shouldn’t be any now.

Following up on her impressive showing on opening day, the 5’4 sophomore came up big down the stretch once again to cap off an amazing comeback by the Lady Spikers in Set 3 to beat UP for their win of the season 25-21, 25-22, 26-24.

La Salle played catch-up the entire match but it was in the third set that their resolve was truly tested. Down 10-17, the Lady Spikers climbed their way back to put themselves within strking distance. With Lady Maroons at set point 24-21, a quick kill by Majoy Maroon followed by an error by UP’s Isa Molde narrowed to gap to just 2 points.

Cobb, who last week sealed La Salle’s 5-set win over UST with a timely block on Cherry Rondina, delivered 3 straight service aces to win the match. She finished with 10 points with 32 excellent sets.

Tin Tiamzon and Kim Dy topscored for the Lady Spikers with 13 points followed by Des Cheng with 10. UP was led by Diana Carlos with 19 markers.

With the Lady Spikers starting slown in each set, it was their championship experience that helped them in this comeback win over a very aggresive UP squad.

“Hindi madaling mapantayan ang UP so sabi ko kailangan ng tyaga and hindi puro power lang ang gagawin. Kailangan talaga ng maturity inside the court,” said coach Ramil de Jesus.

With a share of the early season lead with NU at 2-0, the team will next face FEU next Wednesday.
