Previous Encounter – UST def DLSU 84-82
Things have been clicking lately for the Green Archers as they have won their last three games, including a convincing 73-52 win over UE last Saturday. But if they really want to contend this season, they have to learn how to beat an elite team.
The UST Tigers on the other hand is the “Never Say Die” team of this tournament with five come-from-behind wins so far. Their last victory over NU is a testament to their resolve.
In their first round encounter, La Salle had all the chances to win but several defensive lapses, coupled by missed free throws allowed UST to come through in double overtime.
Chalk it up to experience. The Green Archers have been playing with more focus, intensity and energy as of late. Even with LA Revilla sidelined, other players stepped up and carried the scoring load. We the team can sustain the momentum heading into this two-game stretch against UST and ADMU.
Pregame Points:
Norbert Torres – His scoring has dipped in the last few games but on a positive note, his rebounding and assist numbers remain solid. Expect him to get his offensive game going once again against UST’s thin frontline.
Aljon Mariano – He is greatly responsible for most of UST’s comeback wins. Against the Archers in the first round, he did most of the damage in the extra two periods.
Guarding the Perimeter – In their initial meeting, the Archers allowed the likes of Clark Bautista and Jeric Teng to wax hot from the outside. Bautista in fact went 6 of 9 from beyond the arc. The Tigers are second overall in perimeter scoring.
Mental Toughness – Will the Tigers apply the same psyche-out tactics they demonstrated against NU? La Salle has to be ready for this.
Go Archers!
