Pregame: Green Archers vs Tamaraws 7/22

2PM – MOA Arena
Previous Encounter:
UAAP Season 74: 1st Round – FEU def. DLSU 74-65/ 2nd Round – FEU def. DLSU 66-57

For this group of Green Archers, being on top of the standings in the early goings of the UAAP season is a whole new experience for them. Their first two wins may have been against the lowly teams of the league but neither win was what you would call convincing. In both contests, the team struggled to find their rhythm on both ends of the floor.

“It’s still a long way to go”, said coach Gee Abanilla. “Early in the season, we are trying to figure out what works, what does not work and trying different combinations but ultimately we want to get better as the season progresses. We’re slowly trying to figure out what really works for us”.

La Salle committed 17 turnovers in both of their first two matches. UP and UE managed to keep the game close with 14 and 16 turnover points respectively.

Norbert Torres had limited production in their last game due to early foul trouble, scoring just 3 points in 13 minutes of playing time.“Against FEU, we can’t afford to have our big guys in foul trouble”, said coach Gee.

The Tamaraws may have lost several players like Ramos, Exciminiano, Cawaling and Noundou but the team remains strong and can still content for the title.

“FEU is strong in all positions so we really have to be prepared”, added coach Gee.

Since 2008, the Archers have only beaten the Tamaraws twice.

Pregame Points:

Containing the Tams’ backcourt – RR Garcia has been the biggest thorn in La Salle’s side these past seasons. With his athleticism and explosiveness, defending him has always been a challenge.  Aside from him, the Archers also need to deal with Terrence Romeo and Michael Tolomia.

Joshua Webb and Almond Vosotros – Both have so far struggled offensively but we all hope that they can step up tomorrow. These two can definitely score especially in the open court.

Arvie Bringas – The highly recruited bigman out of San Sebastian HS played one season for DLSU back in 2009. Who would not forget his amazing performance in the Archers’ double overtime win against UST where he scored 21 points, 13 of which came in the final quarter and beyond. He has since then moved to FEU and after two years of residency, he is back in the UAAP.
