#RivalryWeekend: Lady Archers take down Lady Eagles in lopsided affair

Green Archers

Fueled by their highly contagious pressure defense all-game long, the DLSU Lady Archers made quick work of the Ateneo Lady Eagles with a 75-52 rout earlier today.

Ara Abaca led the Lady Archers with 12 points and 7 rebounds while Nicky Garcia chipped in an efficient 10 point and 4 assist performance.

“More than anything, what I was always saying to the team, we shouldn’t be blinded by the results, (and) we shouldn’t be deceived by the standings. The focus is we must be getting better every game,” commented La Salle head coach Tyrone Bautista after the game.   For Ateneo, Kat Nuñez led the blue shirts with 12 points while Cara Buendia added 10 points and 10 boards.

The game was decided in the early going after La Salle managed to uncork a 20-5 scoring run en route to a big 40-16 advantage to end the first half.   During that pivotal run, La Salle’s full court pressure proved to be too much for the Ateneo given the number of fast break opportunities the Lady Archers capitalized on. The Lady Archers also shared the rock on offense by ending the game with 22 assists and scored 36 turnover points.

“Our execution in offense was phenomenal because we played unselfish basketball. Having 22 assists in one game is a sign of team basketball and the same time and the key for us really is we took care of the ball and we only committed 13 turnovers,” said Coach Bautista.

La Salle continued their momentum in the second half by unloading a series of short scoring runs to keep Ateneo away from striking distance.

With this win, La Salle keeps its perfect 4-0 standing.

“I think we still have a lot of room for improvement [for the upcoming games],” ended Coach Bautista.

The Lady Archers will face UST in the semis.
