#RivalryWeekend: What Revenge? Cardona comes up big in PBA Archers’ repeat win over PBA Eagles

Mac Cardona

Captain Hook does it time and time again.

Mac Cardona led the way for the Archers with 29 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals as they stave the end-game efforts of the Blue Eagles with a 111-108 win earlier at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

In addition, Ryan Arana chipped 21 while Carlo Sharma and Don Allado went for a combined 25 points.

On the other hand, Chris Tiu led the Eagles with 27 points followed by Rabeh Al-Hussaini’s 26.

This win marks the second straight win for the Archers in their PBA Dream Game matchups over Ateneo.

After Ateneo crawled back with consecutive free throw hits from Chris Tiu to take a small 103-99 lead with 3:59 left in the final quarter, Cardona took the game over after scoring 9 straight points off hook shots and an outside shot to thrust the Archers back with a 106-102 lead.

The Blue team would then respond back to tie the game at 106 apiece after Rabeh Al-Hussaini and Wesly Gonzales sank their jumpers leading an Ateneo timeout with 59.6 seconds left in regulation.

In the ensuing possession, La Salle finally managed to ride the driver’s seat after Mike Cortez swished out dimes leading to Jerwin Gaco’s layup and Don Allado’s corner jumper to notch a 110-108 advantage.

Cardona then slammed the door shut for a miracle Ateneo comeback after splitting his freebies for a 111-108 finish.
