Junior Archers defeat UST to remain unbeaten
The De La Salle-Zobel Junior Archers remain unbeaten in the UAAP Season 76 Juniors Basketball competition as they tamed the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs, 84-72 in resumption of the juniors games today held at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
Henri Subido led the Junior Archers once again with 28 points, 4 assists, and 5 steals which forced the Tiger Cubs to commit 23 total turnovers in the game. The Junior Archers capitalized on those to end the game with 23 turnover points compared to UST’s 7.
Jose Maldinger supported Subido by posting a double-double with 23 points and 12 boards, 6 of them from the offensive end and posting a shot block. Paulo Corre led the Tiger Cubs with 22 points while Aaron Reyes contributed off the bench for UST to finish with 18 points.
The Junior Archers limited the Tiger Cubs to just 1-of-13 from the trifecta region as well in the game. The Junior Archers are tied with the National University Bullpups at 4-0 at the top of the UAAP Season 76 Juniors Basketball Division standings at this stage of the eliminations.
This will serve as a good warm-up for the Junior Archers as they will face Ateneo on Sunday to try and extend their win run to five in the first round of eliminations.

The Heartbreak continues for CSB
For the fifth straight game, the College of Saint Benilde Blazers suffered another blackeye as they dropped another heartbreaking game, 78-80 this time from the hands of the San Sebastian Stags in their first round meeting in Season 89 of the NCAA at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan Thursday night.
Two canned charities from rookie Leodaniel De Vera off a foul from Jonathan Grey sealed the victory for the Stags.
In the payoff period, the Stags opened the quarter with five straight points. St. Benilde’s Mark Romero answered with six straight points, giving the lead back to the Blazers, 64-61 at the 7:54 mark.
Jamil Ortuoste’s production managed to keep the game close for the Stags. With the Stags in the lead 71-70 with 4:38 left, a costly foul by rookie Mark Tano on CSB Jonathan Grey was whistled by the official. The shooting guard from St. Benilde was awarded three free throws which he all made for a 73-71 St. Benilde lead.
With seven seconds to work around, a Bradwyn Guinto assist to CJ Perez had the “new beast” connect a bailout triple at the 3:05 mark. This gave the lead back to the Stags, 74-73.
A split from the line plus a basket from Grey followed up by an undergoal stab from Taha gave St. Benilde a comfortable 78-74 cushion with 2:19 remaining.
San Sebastian, who knew there was ample time to turn things around went to rookie Guinto for a short jumper that inched the gap by two, 78-76 with less than two minutes left.
After a series of turnovers from both ends, Jovit Dela Cruz banked a short jumper that tied the count at 78-all with 55 ticks left. With 31 seconds remaining, a foul on Grey sent San Sebastian’s De Vera to the stripe. The rookie calmly sank both charities that sealed the game. St. Benilde had the chance to write the final line of the story but a Taha attempt to crack a basket that could have sent the game into overtime did not happen.
St. Benile dropped to 0-5
