The Clipboard: Overconfidence is not a problem for the Green Archers

This season, every time the Green Archers go up against a team they are expected to beat, the most common phrase read online, whether it is social comments, forum posts or other pregame articles is “don’t be overconfident”.

We can’t blame them. The team in recent years has been a victim of upsets. And let’s not forget last season where they had so many fourth quarter come-from-behind losses.

But I’m telling you, this year’s team is way, way much different from what we have been accustomed to. Energy, attitude, desire, you can feel the positive vibe when they play. Of course they can’t play perfect basketball all the time but in tight games wherein the opponent is slowly sneaking up on them, they just manage to turn on the switch and pull away. And once they’re up big, they’ll continue to keep on pounding.

Tomorrow, La Salle will be facing UST, a team struggling to put it all together this season. The Tigers though are coming off an impressive win over NU to stay in the hunt for a semis berth.

In their first round matchup, the Green Archers won by a whopping 38 points. Leading by just 9 at the break, the team went on tear in the second half, outscoring the Tigers 56-27.

Honestly, I don’t see La Salle losing this one. It would need to take a very, very bad game from them for their opponent to have a chance. But if you look at it, even in games where we all thought they played bad, they still manage to win.

So will the result be the same tomorrow? Most likely! Against a team that ranks at the bottom on both offense and defense, the odds are good.

Aside from maintaining their unblemished record, a win here will assure the Green Archers of the twice-to-beat edge in the semis.
