The Weekly Rundown 3.19.18

The Lady Booters advance to the UAAP finals for the third straight year after taking care of business in their last two preliminary assignments. After their loss to finalist UST last week, the defending champions needed to get at least a draw against UP and FEU to play the Tigresses once again for the title.

Last Wednesday, they defeated the winless Lady Maroons 1-0 while their game match against the Lady Tamaraws last Saturday ended in a scoreless draw. The results were enough for the Lady Booters to finish the elimination round at number two with 16 points. UST topped the standings with 19 points.

The finals will be played on April 5.

Despite topping the elimination round with 9-1 card, the La Salle Baseball team came up short in its quest to reclaim the UAAP title as they were swept by Adamson in the best-of-three finals series this past week.

Looking to force a deciding game, the Green Batters started Game 2 with two runs in the first inning. Still leading 5-4 to start the fourth, the Falcons then unleashed a barrage of runs to erect a sizable lead that would be difficult to overcome. Even with La Salle beating the Falcons twice in the eliminations, the eventual champions were undeniably the much better team in the finals.

The men’s football team continues its ascend in the team standings after beating FEU 1-0 yesterday. With the game still at nil apiece, substitute midfielder Jeremiah Bernaldez scored on a late goal at the 89th minute to give La Salle the win. They are now in third with 16 points and shall face league leader UP this Thursday.

The Green Spikers fell to top-seed NU in 4 sets yesterday to absorb their third straight loss. Now with a 3-6 record, they look to bounce back this Wednesday against winless UE and force another multi-team tie for the fourth spot. The NU, ADMU and FEU most likely assured to enter the Final Four, the last spot is shaping up to become a 4-team race.

After 9 matches, La Salle continues to make headway in the UAAP Chess tournament. The men’s team are currently in 2nd behind NU while the ladies remain on top of the competition.
