The Weekly Rundown 3.6.18

The La Salle Baseball team punched a ticket to the finals with an 11-8 win over defending champion Ateneo Sunday. The win not only gives the Green Batters a shot to reclaim the title they last won in 2016 but they also end the Blue Eagle’s run of 6 straight finals appearances wherein they won 4.

La Salle has been on a tear this season, losing just once in 9 games. Since there will be no semis stage in the 6-team UAAP Baseball tournament, the top two teams after the end of the elimination round will advance to the finals. They shall 2nd seed Adamson.

Incidentally, both finalists are scheduled to face each other in the last playing date of the eliminations tomorrow.

In Softball, La Salle falls to defending champion Adamson 0-10 Saturday to end their season in 6th place with a 4-8 record.

The Green Spikers’ two-game winning streak ended Saturday as they as they lost to defending champion Ateneo in straight sets. Despite the loss, they end the first round at 4th place with 3-4 slate. Both teams are scheduled to face each other again tomorrow to open the second round.

Tough luck continues to hound the men’s football team as they lost to UP and NU to stretch their losing to run to three games. The loss to NU perhaps was the most painful as the Bulldogs’ winning goal came towards the end of the match. From being third just a few weeks ago, Green Booters drop to 6th place at the end of the first round with 9 points. They shall face winless Adamson on Thursday to start round two.

In women’s football, La Salle beats Ateneo 1-0 Saturday as they remain tied with UST on top of the standings at 4 wins and 1 loss. The win also knocks out the Lady Eagles from finals contention in this 5-team tournament.

In Tennis, the La Salle men’s team end their season on a high note as they clinched third place with a 3-2 win over UST Sunday.

In the women’s division, La Salle notched its first win of the tournament after beating Ateneo 3-2. The Lady Tennisters have a chance to get a third place finish if they beat UP next week. Only 4 teams are playing this season.

In UAAP chess, the La Salle teams are right there contending after 6 matches. The men’s team is currently in 2nd at 15 points while the ladies are leading the pack at 18.5 points.
