The Weekly Rundown 4.17.18

The Green Spikers end their UAAP campaign Sunday with a 4-set loss to the Tamaraws. A win would have resulted to a triple tie for 4th place along with UST and AdU. They finish sixth in the tournament with a 5-9 record. The Tigers and Falcons will dispute the last semis slot to join early qualifiers NU (1), FEU(2) and defending champion ADMU (3).

The team is set to rebuild after this season as veterans Raymark Woo, Arjay Onia, Jopet Movido, Mike Frey and Levin Dimayuga are already in their final year of eligibility. They last made the Final 4 in 2013.

La Salle defeated NU 2-1 last Thursday to assure themselves of a place in the UAAP football semis. In their final elimination round match Sunday, the team lost to UE 1-3 to finish as the 4th seed with 20 points. UST is 3rd at 25 points while league-leaders UP and ADMU will dispute the top seed on Thursday.

The semis will be on April 26.

Looking at the current UAAP General Championship Tally, with 3 events left for the season it will be an uphill task for La Salle to overtake UST. It will basically depend the following scenarios.

– Men’s Volleyball: UST loses to Adamson to finish 5th. La Salle is set to finish 6th.

– Men’s Football: UST loses in the Final 4 to finish 3rd and La Salle wins the championship

– Women’s Volleyball: La Salle wins the championship. UST is set to finish 7th.

It’s tough but it can be done.
