UAAP Roundup: UST foils La Salle’s 3-peat bid in Women’s Tennis; Lady Booters force deciding match; Back-to-Back titles for La Salle in Women’s Chess

The Lady Tennisters’ hopes for a third-straight UAAP title were shattered yesterday as they lost to UST 3-2 in the deciding championship match.

It was a heart-breaking loss for La Salle, which swept the elimination round and had the twice-to-beat advantage in the finals. UST on the other hand, had to go through a play-off with UP to enter the finals. The Tigresses won 3-2 in Game 1 last February 24.

La Salle won the men’s tennis title last February 21 after they swept the elimination round and won Game 1 of the finals series versus National University.

In women’s football, La Salle forced a winner-take-all match after defeating UST 4-3 in Game 1 of their finals series.

Both teams went scoreless after regulation and the game was decided in a penalty shootout, which the Lady Booters won. Game 2 will be played next Sunday.

La Salle finished 4th in the men’s division.

In chess, La Salle won its second consecutive title in the women’s division. The men’s team placed 4th in the tournament, a big improvement from their last place finish a year ago.
