Up Close with the Lady Spikers – Part 2

Interview by Tin Pe Benito

Michele Theresa Gumabao

What do you think went wrong last season and what areas the team needs to improve on this year?
Last year was disappointing, but I believe we learned a lot from that loss. We learned to be united inside and outside the court. We had to improve our skills so that means more drills and exercises. We have to improve on our communication inside the court and teamwork. We have to have the heart and intensity while playing, the eagerness to win.

Is there any pressure to win the crown this season given that the team’s core is still intact?
A lot of pressure. Everyone knows that we are a strong team and that puts a lot of pressure on our starting 6 to perform well.

How motivated are you heading to this season?
I think we are very eager to get back the crown. We know that we have worked hard and now it’s time to prepare for our games not only physically but also mentally and spiritually as well.

Who will be your toughest opponent(s) this season?
I don’t want to single out the strong teams from the others. Our toughest competition ever since last year was ourselves.

Any messages to the team’s followers?
Keep supporting La salle. We will do our best to make you guys proud and of course make God proud:)

Isabella Lepping

What do you think went wrong last season and what areas the team needs to improve on this year?
From the way i saw it from outside the court as a second stringer, the problem wasn’t really physical but rather mental and emotional.  But we have definitely been able to work on that this year.

Is there any pressure to win the crown this season given that the team’s core is still intact?
There is a lot of pressure attached – pressure from the coaching staff, pressure from the school as well as the managers and pressure from the supporters.

How motivated are you heading to this season?

VERY. Period. Haha.

Who will be your toughest opponent(s) this season?
It would definitely be UST because of the fact that they are the defending champions. But then again, you couldn’t really assume who would turn out to be your toughest opponent because every team, including us, wants the championship title just as much.

Any messages to the team’s followers?
Thank you so much for believing. Keep on supporting the team. God speed. ANIMO LA SALLE!

Ma. Carmela Garbin

What do you think went wrong last season and what areas the team needs to improve on this year?
I guess the team was not prepared to win that time. The team needs to improve its defense and teamwork on the court.

Is there any pressure to win the crown this season given that the team’s core is still intact?
I think so, because anything goes. Just like what they always say “bilog ang bola”, unexpected things happen.

How motivated are you heading to this season?
Very motivated, our goal is to win the championship no matter what.

Who will be your toughest opponent(s) this season?
I guess it would be UST.

Any messages to the team’s followers?

Thank you for your never ending support and love for the team we appreciate them all. We hope that we could repay all your efforts through our performance, once again thank you and God bless you always.

I worked hard and prepared myself well for the coming season. I know this is our season.

Who will be your toughest opponent(s) this season?
